    Brief Summary

Adam sends Shalimar to meet a feral named Donna Morse to protect her from the GSA but she changes her mind and leaves to meet her date, Jack Mitchell. During the date, suddenly Donna goes wild and attacks Jack and disappears. Adam on knowing that Donna is missing, sends Shalimar to her apartment. This time she meets a young researcher named Richard Saunders who works at Genomex and a fight begins which ends with great mutant attraction. He explains to her that he was here to give Donna some treatment. At the same time, at Genomex, an auditor named Karen Bell informs Mason that Richard was using the Genomex’s facilities to come up with a cure for mutants and assures him that he will be caught. Meanwhile, Shalimar secretly enters Genomex and finds Richard. He tells her about the effects of the serum and that he has used it to treat Donna. Suddenly a warning sign appears, showing that someone broke into his files and he and Shalimar escape, when the GSA agents find out that all his files have been deleted. They go back to Donna’s apartment and then realize their great feelings for each other, and he tells her that he also injects the serum and also advices Shalimar to take it so that they can have a normal life together. Shalimar goes back to Sanctuary and shows the serum to Adam who checks it and finds that it contains uncontrolled DNA when Shalimar decides to take the injection and be with Richard. Back at Genomex, Karen tells Mason that an autopsy revealed unidentifiable DNA and Mason orders her to bring the body to the lab for examining. At the same time, Adam, Jesse and Brennan hear that the victim of the serum was Donna.

Next, Richard wakes up out of control and shivering when Shalimar takes him to Sanctuary for help. On their way, they are attacked by Karen and her agents but are successfully stopped by Brennan, Emma and Jesse and on reaching Sanctuary; Adam reveals that it was too late to save Richard but can save Shalimar by creating a protein from Richards’s bone marrow. Shalimar, terribly upset, agrees and is finally cured. Meanwhile, Mason punishes Karen for her failure.

    Themes in the Episode

Normality, how would a mutant feel on being free from his/her power and being normal once and for all?

    Plot Holes

    None

    Creepy Moment of the Episode

When Shalimar finally injects the serum provided by Richard the suspense of what would happen next is one real creepy moment for me.

    The Best Character Award

I feel that the award deserves to go to Emma and Shalimar. In this episode, Brennan and Jesse kept doing the investigation and did not entirely include Emma. In fact, Emma also wanted to do some action so she began training herself.  It came handy when Karen and her agents tried to attack Shalimar and Richard. So she proved herself useful to the team. Shalimar on the other hand, showed the lighter side of herself when she met Richard and she showed it very well.

    Was it centric?

This episode was mostly centered on Shalimar than the other members of Mutant X.

    Unexplained events

    Everything was explained.

    Things we noticed

~ It’s always Adam who has to be noticed- his usual black outfits turn white in this episode. At the end especially, it’s seen very clearly…

    First Appearance of

~ Emma training herself for combat like kicking as she is seen in this episode. She usually deals with emotions, but I guess she wanted a slight change...

    Best Line

Shalimar to Richard: “I can’t imagine not being a mutant”

    Worst Line

Richard to Shalimar: “Welcome to the new world, Shalimar”

    Purist Reaction

    5 out of 5 Wadjets.

This episode is one of my favourites in S1 because I am a big fan of Shalimar and I also liked the story too. I knew Shalimar was the type who is pretty bold and unpredictable, but this episode also made me like her all the more as it showed the tender side of her nature. On the other hand, I also liked Emma’s role as she had an innocent look on her like she always has. So that’s the reason I have given a full 5 for this episode
