(we’re not sure why, but we have two shrines for this episode)

    Brief Summary
Brennan and Jesse are investigating the recent spree of safe house break-in’s, and trying to figure out how the GSA is breaking through there safe house security. At one of the recent break-ins they were able to get one of the security videos to help them in trying to figure out what happen during the break in; where some new mutants were captured by the GSA. Back at sanctuary, Emma discovers while reviewing the security tape that one of the GSA happens to be an old high school friend (Michelle Bigelow). Who happens to be a telecyber psionic. This explains how the GSA has been getting into the safe houses. Emma contacts her and takes off on her own to meet up with Michelle. They decide to meet up and catch up on old times, at Jaspers an old high school hangout. But to Emma’s surprise Michelle had set her up to be captured by the GSA. At Genomex Michelle is putting a sub-dermal governer on Emma. Emma angered at the fact that Michelle betrayed her, she try’s to make sense of why Michelle sold her out. Emma finally talks Michelle into hearing her out, and leads her to Eckhart’s office to show her files on what mason mission really is about and hopefully convince her to leave Genomex. Emma contacts Adam to let him know that she’s on her way out with Michelle, and to send the helix to pick them up. Adam sends Brennan and Shal to pick them up. At sanctuary Adam and Jesse are waiting for Emma, Michelle, Brennan, and Shal to arrive. Once they arrive Adam greets Michelle and try’s to explain to her that he needs to check her up to make sure that Eckhart didn’t aggravate the emotional side of her mutation, When she confesses that mason did change her DNA and that she no longer had emotions to hider her. At that point she knocks Adam out and then takes out the rest of the team leaving Emma watching on in disbelief. Michelle proceeds to infiltrate sanctuary computers and tells Emma that she going to be sending the genomex the coordinates to sanctuary. Emma then tells Michelle that she wasn’t going to let her get away with and starts bombarding her with different emotions till she looses control and passes out.

    Themes
    Betrayal & Forgiveness:
~Michelle turning over Emma to the GSA)
~Emma forgiving Michelle for turning her over to the GSA, and for trying to expose sanctuary’s location. Brennan, Jesse, and Shalimar forgive Emma for taking off on her own, and trusting a GS agent.

    Plot Holes
1- Emma, a thief? (She brook into the deans office and stole all the furniture.)
2- I thought Emma couldn’t control her powers all that good back then?
3- If she’s a telempath then how was she able to project the illusion of Eckhart's office being empty to the technician? An empty room isn’t an emotion.
4- Finally if there not supposed to use there powers in public….then they have a fight scene in a mall.

    Creepy Moment of the Episode
    None that I recall.

    The Best Character Award
I know he’s a Holo-agent, and he was only on for a little bit. But I loved the way he kicked Brennan and Jesse’s Butt’s. Especially Brennan, it’s good to see him on his face every now and then. Jesse did put up a good fight though.

    Was it centric?
I felt that this episode was more centered on Emma, But Adam and Jesse had some good screen time.

    Unexplained events
    Not that I can remember.

    Things we noticed
At Jaspers Jive. Emma and Michelle are at the counter waiting for their drink. Pay attention to the three cactus plants that are on the register. When there drinks are being “Handed” to them you only see the two Plants instead of the three. Then when they walk away from the counter you see three again.

    First Appearance of
Emma’s mischievous side, and recklessness, TPTB first and (IMHO) last attempt at showing us her party girl personality.

    Best Line
Michelle: The GSA is a law enforcement organization; Emma whose mission is to protect new mutants from themselves.
Emma: Oh please...just because you work for the so called law; does not make the GSA moral, ethical or right.
Michelle: I think it’s time you realize what you’re a part of. Mutant X is a pack of outlaws who flaunt their illegal behavior.
Emma: No. no. We do not break the law
Michelle: Well you’re out there wreaking havoc when you should be working within the system to make the world ready for new mutants
Emma: and you honestly believe that that’s what you’re doing.
Michelle: Absolutely. You think that you’re some kind of romantic hero running around with Adam and the rest…forget about it. Your nothing more then a bunch of common criminals using your heighten abilities for your own benefit.
Emma: You are out of your mind. Adam is a man with a mission; to prepare the world for our existence one step at a time.
Michelle: uhm and its Adams mission that give new mutant’s grief in the first place.
(I know it’s more then a line but I couldn’t just choose one.)

    Worst Line
Adam(to Jesse): the moment you have a virtual opponent that ziggs….Boom Boow…and you expect it to zaggs then your thrown for a lost.
    (This line just irks me.)

    Purist Reaction
    4 1/2 Wadjets.

    BRIEF SUMMARY

Mutant Underground safehouses are falling fast.  Somehow, the GSA starts having an enormous success at finding their location and overriding any security measures set. Mason Eckhart has a secret weapon on Michelle Bigelow, an ambitious GSAgent trainee, a mutant telecyber.

Checking security videos from a fallen safehouse, Emma DeLauro recognizes Michelle as an old high school buddy she lost contact with after graduation. She sets an appointment with the telecyber in a popular cafe they used to favor in their school days, where they catch up on old days, when they skipped the place without paying the bill.  They realize they are at opposite sides of the fence where mutants are concerned, Michelle defending the GSA position and Emma defending Mutant X.

Meanwhile, the other team members are undergoing extensive training on the dojo and investigating the reason their security systems have been so easily bypassed. Jesse is having a hard time fighting simulations, even though he can easily best the real GSAgents.

The meeting at the bar ends up with Michelle betraying Emma to the GSA, who’s captured and taken to Genomex, where she is implanted with a sub-dermal governor. While her ex-friend leads her to confinement, Emma talks Michelle into hacking the GSA computer system to prove their high and mighty intentions towards new mutants. They break into Eckhart’s office and Michelle penetrates his personal computer, where they find out what they really have been doing to the new mutants they capture. What it is, is not revealed to the audience.  Seeming terrified by whatever she found in Eckhart’s computer system, Michelle decides to flee Genomex with Emma. She is taken to Sanctuary, where se meets Adam and reveals her DNA has been tampered with by the Genomex technical departments, so she could shed her organic form and turn into living hardware. Before the team’s eyes, the woman Michelle Bigelow transforms herself into a hybrid being, half-human, half-machine, with no emotions at all. The thing interacts with Sanctuary’s system, transmitting all its database with safehouse and shelter locations to the GSA.

In order to stop Michelle from further compromising Sanctuary’s computer system, Emma taps into her memories and gives the telecyber an overdose of emotions, manipulating her feelings to the max, causing her to short circuit.

    MAIN AND SECONDARY PLOTS

The episode is mainly betrayal and loyalty.  What do you do when your past catches up with you? How do you play past loyalties against new ones? Can you trust old friends you’ve lost contact with?

The secondary plot is the capacity to face tests with calm and concentration, instinct versus knowledge, different reactions to a set up test and the real thing, for instance a school final where you have to apply knowledge you have acquired and a job situation where you also have to apply acquired knowledge, only one is a test and the other is the real thing.

    PLOT HOLES

How did Emma know exactly what to look for in Eckhart’s personal computer when trying to prove to Michelle the GSA is less than trustworthy?

    CREEPY MOMENTS

The moment Michelle turns from a woman into a cyber monster can be regarded as creepy.  Also, the way Emma manipulates her emotions, causing her to self-destruct is more than creepy, is terrifying, showing the audience just how powerful Emma can be and why Eckhart regards her as the most dangerous member of Mutant X.

    TOUCHING MOMENTS

This episode is full of private conversations and revelations that are quite touching: Shalimar and Brennan talking about Jesse, Michelle and Emma catching up on old times, Adam and Jesse talking about hardship facing tests.

    WAS IT CENTRIC?

Yes, this is Emma’s episode. Her relationship with Michelle is the central plot, her blind trust in her old friend when she goes to meet her without backup even though she is a GSAgent trainee. And Emma saves the day!

    BEST CHARACTER AWARD

It has to go to Emma!  This is the episode where she starts to realize the full extent of her powers.  At first, Emma thinks of herself as unworthy of the team because her powers are non-aggressive.  On this story, she is forced to juggle with her old friend’s emotions to prevent her from revealing all Sanctuary’s secrets to the GSA.  The young and care-free, reckless Emma DeLauro that started the episode, finishes it older and wiser about herself and her role in the team.

    BEST LINES

Mason: “I suppose I’d have to say my glass is half empty, Mr. Delay.”

Mason: “What are your ultimate professional goals?”
Michelle Bigelow: “Ultimately, I would like to have your job, sir.”

Adam: “The minute you have a virtual opponent who zings, you know, boom... pow... and you expect him to zag, then you’re thrown for a loss.  I bet you had trouble with videogames when you were a kid, right?”
    Jesse: “Still do.”

Michelle and Emma: “I’m over this place.”

Brennan: “Eckhart considers you, and this is a quote, ‘Shalimar Fox is by far the least interesting member of Mutant X.”
    Shalimar: “Give me that.”
    Brennan: “Made you look.”
    Shalimar: “You idiot!”

Jesse: “Still can’t see you cramming for a final, though.”
Adam: “Who said I had to cram?”

Mason, eyes closed, leaning back on his red chair: “I’m busy, Mr. Delay.”

    UNEXPLAINED EVENTS

None I could think of. Things were revealed as they happened, the plot was pretty tight, the set up was believable.

    THINGS WE NOTICE

This is the episode where Adam states he entered college at the age of 12.

This is also an episode where Emma has the chance to get physical, fighting the GSAgents at the mall alongside Shalimar and holding her own beautifully.

It is amusing to see a virtual opponent kick Brennan’s ass big time. Refreshing.

Eckhart’s lackey of the week has the most unfortunate name ever: Mr. Delay.

Michelle states that the technical department at Genomex has tampered with her DNA to let her shed her organic form and turns from meetware to living hardware, effectively transforming the girl into a cybermonster. It proves the GSA is less than angelic in its purpose.

    PURISTS REACTION

This episode merits three and a half out of five Wadjets.

It is well written, the theme is worthy of the series, but it is somehow lukewarm. It doesn’t stick in the minds of fans.  Michelle, even though played by a very good looking actress, is highly forgettable. This could be a highlight in the series, but somehow, it simply isn’t.
